From 1993 to 2012, the site of the present Beli Visitor Centre and Rescue Centre for Griffon Vultures housed the Eco-Centre Caput Insulae-Beli, a non-governmental organisation headed by D.Sc. Goran Sušić, an ornithologist and employee of the Institute for Ornithology of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Since 2014, the project for the establishment of a new Visitor and Rescue Centre for Griffon Vultures has been taken over by Priroda Public Institution with its partners.
